Steam is one way to infuse moisture into your hair. Moisture is the fundamental key in retaining length. One comment I hear repeated in the natural hair community is "My hair is not growing". If you have a pulse your hair is growing, the problem is you are not retaining any length. Retaining length means the hair growing from your scalp is breaking giving you the idea your hair is not growing.
But there is always hope when all seems lost. When ask for tips about hair growth my #1 advice is think of your hair like a plant. When a plant does not receive any moisture and is dry it will become brittle, break and eventually die because the roots are not receiving any moisture ie water and the same concept should be applied for our hair. Hair Steamers are designed specifically to resolve the most challenging hair frustrations – dry hair, breakage, split ends, and scalp itch/discomfort. Here is a simple diagram of the structure of hair from healthy to different variations of split hair that can result from dryness:

The steamer I invested in is the Huetiful Hair steamer found here. I used the term investment because the health of my hair is my focus and hair healthy hair will ALWAYS retain length. The first treatment caught me by surprise because my hair instantly felt supple and buttery smooth. For years I searched and experimented with multiple techniques and products with limited success. My hair would be somewhat manageable for a period of time then the weather would change, or a favorite product of mine would change their formula and list can go on and on. A hair steamer can resolve majority of hair frustrations and you will soon find yourself not buying multiple deep conditioners and hair treatments that claim to completely restore moisture back into your hair. Steaming natural or perm hair will leave your tresses moisturized from the inside out! Once your hair is steam hydration trained your natural styles will also last longer! This product will forever be a stable and top 3 must haves for my hair regimen.
ALL STEAM EVERYTHING
I have also incorporated steam rollers to create styles without having to use a curling iron or other methods of heat. I use Caruso Steam rollers found here.

Benefits I have experience by adding steam to my regime:
* Hair feels and looks moisturized dramatically
* Decreases the datangling process and conditioning time.
Tip: Moisturized hair is manageable hair.
* Effectively penetrates conditioner into hair shaft.
Other alternatives for steam treatments:
*Apply conditioner to hair, put on a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer for 30 mins.
*Apply conditioner to hair, put on a plastic cap and wrap a heated towel directly from the dryer
around your head and leave on for 30mins.
*Apply conditioner, put on a plastic cap and exercise. Your body heat will create steam under the
plastic cap.
*Search locally for hair salons that have a steamer and inquire about rates for steam treatments.
*Sit in bathroom about 30 mins with conditioner on your hair while the shower is running
(leave the shower running for only 5-10 mins then turn off) to create a steam room.
Tip: Put a towel under the door to trap in all the steam from your shower.
